Jake Bentley

I wouldn't say "pro style" QB's are a dying breed per se, its just that the offensive schemes are always evolving and we currently sit where we do at the college level.

As the next crop of offensive minds come through the ranks someone will have a variation of the traditional style of offense that will look different from what everyone is running now and he will light up the scoreboards on defenses. Then someone who replaces Mr. Luginbill will be writing an article asking "Are dual threat QB's and high tempo offenses endangered?"
It's all cyclical really and ultimately is affected by the Pro game. Now if someone can sustain success in the NFL solely using a "college style" offense, then that will be the measuring stick. Until then the Chip Kellys of the world will fail time and time again at the pro level where every single position is talented. College level is still about maximizing your talent and being effective.

Thats why I'm excited for Jake Bentley, he has to the tools and with even moderate success as a Gamecock, will have the NFL scouts all over campus... and that is how we continue to bring in more and more talent every year.
