Atlanta (Ga.) Hapeville Charter CB Antoine Wilder has committed to USC.
Another sleeper find by the staff, a prospect with a bunch of "NRs" on the online recruiting sites. A projected safety for the Gamecocks, Wilder is a new teammate of USC commit Arden Key, who transferred to Hapeville Charter for this coming season. Apparently Key has been putting in the good word for both Wilder and for USC. Wilder attended the 7on7 camp this weekend with Key, was offered on the spot and committed on the spot.
Only offers he shows to have are prior to today from Miss State and Tennessee State...

I thought he was being referred to as a safety? I see where he's being referred to as a Corner in Clark's tweet?
Either way, glad to have him.
*********************************************
QB - Nunez (done here)
RB - (in need of one or two)
TE - Markway
WR - Neal, Bowman, Christian, Washington is still iffy.
OL - Palmer, Milton, Clark (need one more minimum)
DE - Blackshere, Key, Whitlow (should be done here although Whitlow looks like a future linebacker to me.)
DT - (need two good ones here minimum)
LB - Pittman, Henry (need maybe one more)
DB - Fields, Wilder (need one more maybe)
Ath - (still to come)
We'll probably sign 25 in this next class. Plenty of room for another 10-13 commitments, agreed? That would give us between 24-27 signees which means we would expect to place a couple to get it down to 25.
We can go to a full 85 roster limit with this next class, correct?
Targets:
RB - Bryce Love, Nyheim Hines, AJ Turner, Ty'Son Williams, Jordan Scarlett
WR - Irvin Charles, Auden Tate
OL - Brandon Sandifer, Emanuel McGirt, Tommy Hatton, Garrett Thomas, Zack Bailey
TE - Connor Redmond
DL - Dante Sawyer, Marquavius Lewis, Albert Huggins, D.J. Jones
LB - Davon Durant
DB - Rashard Causey, Carlton Davis, Damon Arnette, Octavis Johnson, Mike Hughes, Rico Merriweather Jr
Either way, glad to have him.

Yes I expect us to sign a full class this cycle having to go through the scholarship reduction the past 3 cycles. Also we're still in a wait-and-see pattern on DEs Wideman and JUCO Thomas on whether they can get their academics up to passing for admissions, or we may need to add a couple more DE prospects to your list. Otherwise your list looks good....

Still keeping my fingers crossed for those two. Gotta admit, the ground rumblings are not sounding too good for either, although both will be close one way or the other I suppose.
I sat beside one of Wideman's teachers at Saluda HS the other day at this BBQ place in Leesville, SC and she was telling me that he was just so catered-to in HS because of his athletics, that if he had applied himself this would be a non-issue because he's actually a very smart kid ... but that she seriously doubts he is going to make it in time because he has to get his test score up so high it would probably raise a flag if he did make that big of a jump.
Thomas, on the other hand, I've heard he really has to work hard at his academics and is not as gifted in that arena as some others. He applies himself but has a hard time absorbing it and translating it in the classroom and on tests. They think if they can just get him qualified, and get him some serious help over at The Dodie, that they can keep him qualified and make something out of him - but that it is going to be very very close and one of those last minute things we're not going to know about until late July. I know a lot of people within our program are pulling hard for Thomas to just make it to the program so they can grab-him-up and take him under their wings and develop him to his full potential, because they say he is a hard worker and one of the nicest, most polite kids you'll ever meet.

Damn, hope it works out for him.

Miami commit RB Dexter Williams is on campus.
RB Jordan Scarlett should be coming in, too. He's coming w/ another FAU commit DB Rashard Causey who was thought to be a heavy lean to us before he unexpectedly committed to FAU. I suspect we'd take a commitment from him if he chose to flip, so you can add him to the list of DB targets.

Nvm, apparently DB Rashard Causey is NOT a take for us. And Scarlett didn't make it to campus.
3 straight CBs to us for RB AJ Turner, though. He's light so you gotta think we'd take another bigger back in addition to him.

Who didn't commit and why is Kornblut more of a retard today than usual?
I missed something.

Damon Arnette, a db from St. Thomas Aquinas high school in Florida. He basically said he's not far from committing today and Kornblut tweeted out that Arnette already committed.

Kornbutt did the same thing with DJ Smith. He didn't allow DJ to have his moment.

Zach Bailey was on campus yesterday with his grandparents. Hes been favoring Clemson and USC, but those are the only campuses hes been to so far.

That dumbass needs to quit doing that. Mick Mixon taught him better. The problem with Kornblut is that he hasn't broken any recruiting news in years. He just re-reports what the websites put out and plays like it is his. So he was probably anxious to try to break a story and in the process jumped the gun on both Arnette and Smith. Kornblut has become fairly irrelevant. He used to be the mack daddy in SC recruiting though, prior to the turn of the new millennium I guess. Not anymore though. I tried listening to him one time last year and I could not stomach that kay mack fella long enough to even get into the show.

3* WSDE prospect (6-3, 221) Quandeski Whitlow, out of Opelika AL, has committed to USC. I never saw this one coming....

I think we just offered him, but more importantly how are his grades?

Video: MASH HERE - kid is a freak in the weight room.
ETA: Good article from al.com on the kid.
quote:
After visiting South Carolina and landing a scholarship offer this past weekend, Quandeski Whitlow didn't have to wait long to know that's where he wanted to be. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound defensive end from Opelika High School verbally committed to South Carolina over scholarship offers from Kentucky, Mississippi State and Miami.
"I enjoyed everything," Whitlow said. "I considered myself being a Gamecock and I felt the people made me feel at home. It makes me feel like I'm in Alabama...nothing better than that.
"My mother and I talked about it yesterday and half of today. I did research on coach (Steve) Spurrier and he seems like a great man. I just locked it in as that's where I want to be."
Wouldn't surprise me in the least, and I am going to double-check this just to make sure, if they didn't recruit this kid to be a linebacker in Ward's new system. I've been hearing rumblings, and it just makes sense that this is what it is all about. They want more 6-3 kids that can run and are physical. This kid has it written all over him. Besides, Botkin recruited this kid and had been after him for almost a year. It's got future new scheme linebacker written all over it.

Jhaustin Thomas did not qualify

Not sure if he'll get another chance next year or not
Fingers crossed for Dexter Wideman
