He’s dropping in some rankings. I think the guy is gonna be a beast. What’s the deal?

Love Dobbins. Gus is a small thorn in his side but Dobbins should get enough work + receiving targets to be an RB1

Ravens are working Todd Gurley out. Doesn't mean he'll sign, but it may mean they're not 100% sold on Dobbins.

The deal is that Lamars first instinct is to run, not dump it off to a RB. So that lessens his value

Lamar will also vulture TDs, if he’s not throwing them to Andrews in the RZ

He only scored above 9 points ONCE last season when he didn’t score a TD, and he had 113 rushing yards

He’s TD dependent and won’t catch many balls out of the backfield

He averaged 1.6 targets a game in 2020

I have a trade offer for him. I would give him up and receive Ridley, Kareem hunt, and a late first round pick next year.

My other RBs are Chubb, Mostert, Gaskin, Penny
My other WRs are Adams, Hill, Kupp, Boyd, Pittman, E Moore, Marshall, plus some other low-end/rookie WRs.

It’s a tempting trade, but I take a huge drop in the RB position if I do

Seems like the value is on the side of taking it

But your team gets worse, IMO.

ETA- if you didn’t have Chubb, I would take it

I hope you don’t buy into off-season camp hype / coach speak

I 100% do. Camp notes have found me a lot of sleepers, etc.

Gurley should not move the needle on anyone’s opinion of Dobbins. Agree with Vermy though On potential opportunities

I don't know how you pass this up. If you're heavy with WRs, trade one after the current deal. I bet you could take the trade and then immediately flip just Ridley for a running back similar to Dobbins in outlook.

Good RBs are really hard to get in this league via trade. People aren’t willing to part with them. It’s tough, but I’m just nervous about my RB options outside of Chubb if I let Dobbins go

Also, I won last year so I’m in win-now mode. Gotta win two years in a row. Dobbins may give me that advantage over Ridley and Hunt.

Lamar Jackson targeted RBs at the lowest rate in the NFL last season, as I wrote Monday.

I take this to mean that there's lots of room for improvement, but moving from 32nd to 30th is not going to win a fantasy league. I also read yesterday an article on Rotoworld that explained that rushing quarterbacks have a significant negative impact on running back production.

They open up the running lanes a good bit, but the targets go down drastically

I'm a few days late here, but Chubb and Hunt were both startable in PPR leagues last season.

I disagree. Hunt will provide value as a pass catcher out of the backfield and Ridley is going to make another leap into elite tier status this season, IMO. I had him and Adams on my team last year and it was a lethal WR combo.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ridley has a 100/1400/12 type of season.

Forgot to mention it’s standard. Not sure if that matters though

Per Rotoworld's Ravens fantasy preview:
quote:

Running Game

RB: J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards, Justice Hill

OL (L-R): Ronnie Stanley, Bradley Bozeman, Patrick Mekari, Kevin Zeitler, Ali Villanueva

Dobbins was never able to break out of the Ravens' running back by committee last season despite averaging 6.0 yards per carry. He reached 100 rushing yards just twice and only averaged 12.1 carries in the nine games after the bye. With Mark Ingram gone, Dobbins' 2021 box scores should be improved, even with Gus Edwards still on the team via a new two-year contract. Lamar Jackson's lack of history targeting running backs and Dobbins' questionable hands leave his fantasy ceiling tied heavily to rushing production. It makes Dobbins a riskier RB2 in PPR-related formats. Dobbins projects for 1,000-plus rushing yards and should flirt with double-digit scores as the team’s 1A ahead of Edwards, but both Jackson and Edwards are going to steal some of the goal-line and inside-the-10 carries cand touchdowns. The Ravens are very high on Edwards’ punishing downhill traits and have touted this as a backfield committee.

Edwards was the Ravens' No. 2 back for the entire 2020 season. He earned the power back role over Mark Ingram in the second half of the season and is being brought back for the same role. Despite the power back label, Edwards has impressive elusiveness for a big back. He averaged 5.0 yards on his 144 carries last season. Edwards will max out as a fantasy RB3/4 if the Baltimore backfield is Edwards and J.K. Dobbins in 2021 because he's not a receiving threat and plays in an offense that doesn’t throw to the position. If Dobbins would ever get hurt and miss time, Edwards would be a weekly RB2 with touchdown upside.

Hill looks like the favorite for No. 3 duties in Baltimore, though the team has flirted with free agent Todd Gurley in recent weeks. The No. 3 job is notable in Baltimore because Hill could instantly find his way into double-digit touches should one of Dobbs or Edwards get hurt. Hill is a player to monitor at the back end of fantasy drafts in deeper leagues.
