Coaches can still over-achieve and under-achieve with the talent they have. It's also important to pitch recruits on things other than football because 99% of student athletes go pro in something other than sports. You don't need all 4 and 5 star athletes to have winning seasons. If you can get 70 3-stars, and good coaching, and let the cream rise to the top, you can maintain success. Championships no, but a solid program and sell tickets and sell merchandise and get ranked and get more prime time TV spots and more boosters and higher donations.... absolutely.
