It's not in question unless you are just making shite up. At the start of the thing, the number was inflated well beyond the actual numbers because they would only count verified cases, and wouldn't estimate all the people who got it but never showed symptoms(80%).

When they did the entire formula(which is the same way they do the flu), the actual rate was 0.2% mortality rate. Which was double the normal flu season, at 0.1%.

So I don't know who you think is questioning it, it's a formula they've used for years. Not even sure what early statistics matter, if the deaths weren't reported neither were the cases.

And overall, the numbers were inflated since they counted dying with covid as dying from covid.
