There used to be a meaningful distinction between college sports and minor league baseball games.
The latter was always combined with lots of ads and promotions and "contests" and hokey shite because it didn't really matter or mean anything to anyone.
College football games used to seem almost like rituals, holidays, ecstatic worship services...
Now they're just like everything else.

It's not this pure amateur sport that people talk about. You want that? Watch intramural sports.
