I agree using carbon copy was a bit much. I will give Fleck credit for building up Western Michigan from scratch because that is something that Butch has never had to do.

However, Minnesota was far from a complete rebuild project. Jerry Kill/Tracy Claeys laid the ground work for him. Minnesota was winning 8/9 games pretty consistently towards the end of that era. Fleck was definitely able to get them to the next level by posting an 11 win season but it wasn't like he took over a program that was only winning 5 games a year.

Then the bottom fell out! He went 3-4 this past season.
