All the Missouri folk here clearly came from the Union side of the Missouri split based on their posts, so I'd think they were ashamed of the happenings during Bloody Kansas.

A lot of people don’t realize this but the only states that had more battles during the Civil war than Missouri were Virginia and Tennessee. Not only that but after the Confederate Army surrendered in 1865, the Missouri Guerrilla fighters kept fighting the Union until 1869. It was pretty nasty up here, a lot of neighbor vs neighbor fighting.

You want to talk about nasty, google Order No. 11. All the people in 4 counties in Missouri on the border with kansas (with the exception of folks in a few 'larger' towns like KC, Harrisonville, Independence and a few others) were given 15 days to leave. Then they went and burned down almost all their homes and farms.

Harrisonville has a cabin in town that was moved from a remote place in the county, because that cabin was one of the only antebellum buildings outside of the towns to survive that era.

A "jayhawker" is synonymous with a terrorist, yet our fine friends to the west have the blood-soaked thing as their mascot. It would be tantamount to the University of New Jersey having the mascot the fighting Al Queda's - see how the people in NY would take to that.

The hate runs deep between our states. If you don't have roots here, you definitely won't get it. But it's real
