Alabama had all of 25 yards rushing in the 1st quarter, 54 yards in the second, for 79 rushing yards in the 1st half of play. Considering how many 3-and-outs LSU had on offense, by the time the second half rolled around with Alabama leading 16-0, the defense was gassed and the offense didn't show they could even score.
