What they really should be concerned about is the fan base.
If it becomes something that turns off the fanbase, I can find a lot of things to spend that ticket money on than supporting my alma mater's athletic department.
Yeah, tv money will always be there but playing in front of empty stadiums will not be good for college sports.
The first part of the SEC series on the SEC Network that showed how the sport started and how one team A&M brought in ringers from North Caroline to play against Sewanee shows that this sport, although popular, has always struggled with how to control it even back then.
