What's with the "columns" by the entrance?

Pretty sure it was an old motel at some point. It certainly wasn't originally built as a bar but they redid the inside for Quixote's. They're tearing it down and building a designer hotel or something in its place, which is a damn shame.

It was the bar/restaurant area for the old Auburn Motel. The bar was called Waldo Peppers. In the heady nights of summer 1982, during the Cheap Drink Wars that swept the area bars at the time, my friends and I enjoyed 8-for-1s on Wednesday nights (which tasted about like you imagine).

I ended up working the overnight shift at the front desk of the motel a couple of years later. I got paid waiter's wages (which I believe was $1.75 an hour) but basically slept through my shift except when some hardleg came by at 3am looking to rent a bed for a couple of hours. And in the morning I got a free breakfast, provided I swept up the popcorn in the bar area before 6am,

Good times.
