I could see running something like this as somewhat of a B&B. Hotels have a lot of overhead though so the problem as has been pointed out is the location and price point. You’d have to find somewhere that would attract people naturally but that a big hotel is not already nearby.

It’s also extremely expensive to update them so the interior is anything reasonably decent to modern standards.

I’ve stayed in plenty of 60s and 70s era fish camps and old homes. I don’t have an issue with it, but your average woman wants better.

there are plenty of older drive up motels in m\id-sized cities that are getting extensively renovated...the "retro" theme but with stuff like lounges, brewpubs, yard games, etc.

i like the trend
most of the refurbished places i've stayed are not cheap, at all. the place we like in boulder ( BASECAMP) is like 250/nite and they also offer outfitting services, etc

if in an area of lots of young people, its a great idea
