Watching them struggle with the pronunciation of SC towns is always fun. Two of my faves are Lancaster (LAN-kuh-stir) and outsiders incorrectly pronounce it lan-KA-stir. And Beaufort..I hear ppl prounce it as "BO-furt." And dont get me started on street names like Gervais and Huger. They absolutely slaughter the pronunciation of those.

It's always been a pet peeve of mine when locals don't know how to pronounce the names of their own town.

My favorite Sow Carolina town for this is Pacolet.

The locals call it paco-let. It should be Paco-lE.

Unrelated to south carolina but met a person from Newark, DE the other day.

Probably the first time I've ever met someone from Delaware actually.

So when talking unlike the city in New Jersey where the airport is, it is New-ARK.

That's what it is in NC.
Same spelling, different pronunciation.
