quote:

Avery Jernigan has committed to Auburn.

The 6-foot-3, 275 pound offensive lineman out of Blackshear (Ga.) Pierce County had a list of offers, but he felt Auburn was the right school for him. He has been on the Plains for multiple visits, including this past weekend and that is when it him that Aubrrn is where he belongs.

"The campus and the family atmosphere at Auburn are unbeatable," said Jernigan "When they talk about the Auburn Family, they’re not lying, it is truly a family.

"I made up my mind this weekend when I was over for a Junior Day."

Jernigan chose Auburn over South Carolina and he is an interior lineman and he could project at guard or center on the next level.

4-star OL from Georgia commits to Auburn (247)

Auburn has a big need for offensive linemen in the 2020 recruiting cycle and the Tigers are addressing it easy.

On Thursday night, Avery Jernigan -- a recruit high on the board -- publicly committed to Auburn. He's a 4-star junior from Blackshear (Ga.) Pierce County who is 6-feet-3, 278 pounds. Jernigan chose the Tigers over South Carolina. He has visited Auburn several times, most recently last weekend.

Jernigan is rated as a tackle but likely will play inside for the Tigers.

He's the No. 32 recruit in Georgia in the industry generated 247Sports Composite. Jernigan becomes 2020 commitment No. 5 for Auburn but is the first offensive lineman in the class.

Jernigan told Auburn Undercover he informed Tigers coach Gus Malzahn of his decision Thursday afternoon.

Auburn's need for linemen in 2020 is huge. The Tigers signed just three of them in the 2019 class and two in 2018.

"With the three guys that we have, the good thing is that all three of these guys, we feel like, are impact players," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. "You will see us probably sign the largest offensive line class we’ve done since I’ve been here with [the 2020] class, and I think we’re already in a pretty good spot with 2020 going into this class."

Jernigan is someone Auburn offensive line coach J.B. Grimes targeted early. His first known visit to Auburn was last June. The Tigers offered him a scholarship that same day.

Only one Crystal Ball pick was made for Jernigan. It came from Auburn Undercover's Keith Niebuhr. He put in a selection for Auburn on Oct. 25, 2018.

He then attended multiple games at Jordan-Hare Stadium in the fall.

Only a junior. Maybe he’ll grow a couple inches.
