I'm still perplexed why this is such a hot button issue. To me personally, UGA has 3 "rivals" and a handful of rotating nemeses. 3 is obviously more than most teams have but they all are valid. GT/UF/AU each have their place in the history of UGA football and I think without question would be considered rivals.

Then you have the rotating group. Throughout the 80s UGA/clemson was national and produced some terrific games and national title winners. That doesn't make them our rival necessarily though. In the 90s UT rose to prominence and was a game many UGA fans wanted to win more than probably some of our main 3 rivals. Once spurrier took over SC they shot themselves to the forefront especially since they beat us a handful of times.

But there is still the main 3 and everyone else is below them in the pecking order. It's not belittling them, or saying they suck, it's jsut that there's not any more room since the main 3 have always been there and always will be.

I'm not even sure how many young fans consider Georgia Tech a heated rivalry, at least on the Georgia side. Outside of the Spurrier years, South Carolina was just another Vanderbilt or Kentucky. It has to stem from the Spurrier hatred for Georgia. I lived there for six years, if it wasn't Clemson it was Georgia. Time will tell where this game goes, but one thing is for sure, it will never replace the Florida or Auburn games.
