But we do know that, in fact, Jesus did exist. Historians don’t really consider this a debatable point. Whether or not he is God or the Son of God is the point of contention. This is why insulting, illogical Zeus, Spaghetti Monster and other condescending arguments are entirely wrongheaded. They are false equivalences meant not only to dismiss someone’s dearly held beliefs but also to disparage the believer as if this will somehow win debate points. They are the realm of the Dawkins branch of atheism. These faux intellectuals would have you believe they are superior thinkers and truth-tellers when all they are is the non-theistic version of the the poppycock preaching crowd. “Those people over there are stupid so you people who are smart should buy my book.”
