The easiest solution is split into FBS1 (P5 + Notre Dame) and FBS2 (G5 + the 3 other independents) and have an 8 team playoff for each.

How about naming UCF the G5 national champion, and the annual G5 national champion gets a NY6 game against a big boy.
I’ll be downvotes but I’m for the American adding BYU, Fresno, Boise and maybe one more team Out West and that being a sixth power conference.
schools like UCF and USF are going to have massive alumni bases in 25 years. UCF is the second largest college in the country and it is barely 50 years old.
