Let's talk it...
Are you for or against it?
I say do whatever to get the prospect.
Don't care if you gotta tell the kid you saw the coach and his mother on 2 Notch handing out ZJs

My take: People and coaches have been, and will continue to, use negative recruiting against us all the time. To not use the same tool against them out of some moral superiority complex is just dumb. You don't go into a fight and willing tie one arm behind your back. I'm not in favor of overt cheating or disregarding rules just to win, but you damn sure better be willing to get in the mud if you want to play with the big boys consistently.

I'm not a fan of the negative recruiting tactics, but it's the only way some schools could ever get a kid to commit. When there's just not enough positive things about your campus and location to sell to a recruit, you have to negatively recruit against others because "we're just not as bad".
I do agree though, use any means necessary to win a fight. If it takes a kick to the nuts to get the other guy down, then put on your dancing shoes and start stomping.

I feel like that's likely for the Majority of Schools in P5 football.
And besides, they're all college towns.
Come in, get drunk, get the girls because you're a football player.

I would prefer our coaches use other, more positive, methods first but if they have to go negative I'm all for it. By any legal means necessary.

Sure, I'd prefer that the main focus of our recruiting be selling our school and its positives, but sometimes when it's really close for a kid you might need to point out some negatives to differentiate the schools. For example, if Dabo can pull a 5 star OL from Ohio by telling the kid Urban is on the back end of his coaching days and that he's just getting started, then I can't hate on Dabo. You don't get bonus points for staying above the fray.

I didn't know Negative recruiting was "illegal"
I mean if we are up against a school like Vandy, I would hope a coach points that the city really doesn't give a shite about their team and the fan support sucks.
Would you really not wanna go play where you aren't only the Big Man on campus but known through out town?

I didn't mean that negative recruiting was illegal, I meant that I'm for our recruiters using any methods available to them as long as they're legal and allowed by the NCAA.

I know for a fact that mUSChamp is against it and stresses to everyone involved not to go there. He says he wins more receuiting battles being honest and straightforward without getting into the weeds with opponents recruiting.
Seems to be working.
Now, there is nothing we can do about people like Jeff Scott or Chris Rumpf and the things they say on the recruiting trail. They are both asshats plain and simple.
As far as UNC doing it ... they are desperate. They don't have a good modern record against us nor do they have our conference affiliation or facilities. Besides, it rarely works for UNC and even backfires at times.
Georgia and Clemson, at least for now, have the success factor going for them but they can only sign so many. And Clemson is paying players IMHO. It'll catch-up to them eventually, it always does.
I do not believe we're going to do it under any circumstances though. Now, will we counter with the facts? Hell yes. Will we turn it around on someone caught doing-it if possible? Hell yes. The only problem with that is that we usually don't find out about it until after a player signs with us and then it obviously didn't matter. The other problem is that sometimes, even if we find out during the process, the old saying 'thou doth protest too much' applies. Tis better to smile and stay positive than to validate your opponents' claims by resorting to the same tactics.
Trust me about this. I know of some crazy things pulled by David Reeves, Chris Rumpf, Brad and Jeff Scott and a few others and rarely, very rarely, have their tactics ever worked. The Tennessee staff under Fulmer too ... they were every bit as bad as Clemson and UNC and we still won battles against them and really didn't need the type of players or families who fell for their tactics.
Dabo is far from the saint some claim him to be btw. He's running a dirty ship and it'll eventually blow-up in his face. It's just a matter of time.

Probably not the only thing that's blown up in that a-hole's face.

you can be honest and straightforward in a negative form of recruiting.
see my Vandy example.
Nothing false about that.

It is what it is, you just have to be smart about what you say to recruits. That’s why I like Muschamp, he’s smart about how he recruits.
For instance he doesn’t describe going to school in the middle of nowhere as being a poor decision. He just tells recruits what they will be missing out on. Such as indoor plumbing, motorized vehicles, civilization, and an airport.
