Thank you for all the updates and insight into the program, and I have a question. Do you know anything about KJ and if we have a real chance to land him? Or is he bought and paid for by the I Pick Taters All Year corporation

I just know what I've shared in other threads.

Was talking to a buddy of mine up in Winston-Salem earlier tonight and he says Clemson has the kid and his Dad sewn-up according to the skuttlebut around there. He's an NC State grad and big developer up in the area but he golfs with some guys on the TPC up there that are plugged into West Forsyth. He says word is we made a big push these past few weeks but KJ is going to go full taterhead unless we pull-off the recruiting miracles of all miracles.

Says he's a good kid too but Clemson has the allure of playing for National Championships right now and their recruiting network is killing it in NC ... much like Danny Ford did in the 80s. Says they've got two dozen HS coaches up there in their pockets and there are no openings in sight.

He dislikes Clemson as much as we do but he gave them props on their system right now ... I really didn't want to hear it but I guess, for the moment at least, it is what it is until we find a kink in their armor.

Its like recruiting against Alabama or Ohio State. Clemson has been extremely successful the last few years so they are getting the lion's share of recruits in the area.

How do you start cutting into that share of recruits? By being extremely successful yourself... and you need recruits for that.

I hate to keep kicking the guy in the shin after all the great things he did, but Spurrier essentially retiring two years before he bothered to stop coaching hurt you guys in a lot of ways. Sure, there was the immediate talent difference that began to make itself known... but he also allowed Clemson to establish recruiting dominance in the area.

Lets face it, NC is rich in football talent but has fairly bleh college teams. NC State is the best of an uninspiring bunch and they aren't astoundingly good. Clemson has the recruiting inroads at the moment so they are able to cherry pick the state.

If they get the cream of the crop of NC and split the SC recruits with you its going to be a hard slog to catch up to them.

I do think Muschamp and your coaching staff will manage to slowly whittle away at that advantage but they are essentially hoping to rally from a two TD deficit late in the game when it comes to recruiting against Clemson. Its going to take a lot of hard work and some patience.

You're right Sully. We gotta beat'em on the field, both head-to-head and in terms of trophies, if we want to make-up ground.

Totally agree that Spurrier stayed too long. We probably would have hired Kirby a year or two earlier had he bowed-out gracefully.

I think it's going to be okay though. We gotta find a way to beat Clemson and UGA ... it's doable. They're not always going to have the playmakers they have right now. Things will happen.

It is all on the wheel, it all comes around. We have, I hate to admit this, a ten game losing streak against Bama. Which just happens to match up with when Saban took over the program. So we must have the worst record against the Tide.

Before that streak started we were 8-8 all time against Alabama. We were batting .500 against the best football program of all time.

A quick glance shows that South Carolina is 4-4 with Clemson this decade. 5-4 if you count 2010. They've won 4 in a row. Well you won 5 in a row before that. If you keep working you'll reel them in eventually.
