quote:
Half the teams on your list fired their coach.
...and they're better for it, and it proves that they're better. Of the teams you all played:
Boston College: Steve Addazio, went 3-9 his third year and is 31-32 overall, would have been fired a long time ago in the SEC
Syracuse: Dino Babers, two 4-8 seasons in a row, would have been fired in the SEC
Wake: Dave Clawson, two 3-9 seasons and two 7 win seasons, would have been fired in the SEC
GT: 3-9 and 5-6 campaigns within the last three years and no conf title in last ~10. Would have been fired in the SEC.
When it comes to football the ACC is a conference of Vanderbilt and Mississippi State level programs, but with less revenue, name recognition, and television exposure. SEC coaching changes are covered intensely while most of the CFB watching populace would be hard pressed to name more than 2 ACC coaches let alone correctly place each university in the correct division. Clemson and Florida State have known this for a while and it's why they lobbied for VT and Miami to join. Let's not forget that other schools have been looking, and have left, the ACC with little-to-no notice in the past and the conference is the only P5 conf other than the Big XII to have been raided...thus the conf's new $50m exit fee.
