UCLA doesn’t have to pay him big money for 3 yrs because SanFran is still on the hook for $6MM less what UCLA pays. The Bruins are using this to absorb Mora’s buyout.

If I'm AD, I offer Chip Kelly $1 in salary for the remainder he has with the San Francisco deal. Let them pay him that $6 million and the university doesn't have to. Then offer him huge bonuses for achievements. Say $1 million for making the SEC championship, $1 million for winning it, etc.
Then the bonuses won't go against the salary as they're performance based.
I have not read his contract though, so I am just speculating.
