so each of the letters stands for someone in your family's name?

no sir - they are MY initials

when my dad died, my mom remarried

she DID NOT want to have anyone thinking that she had gotten a divorce (gasp) - did not want to have to explain to people why she had a different last name than her kid (at school, at church, etc)

she also did not think it was appropriate to take my father's name away (bad form to axe the name of a fallen soldier)

so my step father adopted me

and I now have 2 last names

any of y'all that follow me on Political Talk may find this funny - when I was in HS a was dating a girl & her mom was a TRUE believer for any left wing cause (a SJW if you will)

so the mom assumed that my dad had taken my mom's last name; the old RAVED & showered me with praise about how "enlightened" my family was

she was genuinely disappointed when I explained to her that WAS NOT the case...

wow man, I'd always wondered what the letters were for. I think it's a great thing that your mom did, keeping your dad's last name with you. I'm sorry to hear about your dad, he was a true patriot

I can only imagine what that conversation was like when you told her the truth
