he went 8-4 and ended up 5th in the SWC the season before he resigned. Got blown out by USC in the Bluebonnet Bowl.

Started out his final season like gangbusters then got blown out by UH (his team got blown out in big games), and then lost to a crappy Baylor team at home, to start conference play 1-2. He wanted the President to back him up and didn't get the response he wanted. He had a tough time handling the pressure. Was it a mistake to not back him - maybe. He turned A&M around for sure. But he lost every big game while he was there.

Badly,too. Now before I go any further I know full well that A&M defeated LSU in '74 and '75.

But I remember at the end of both seasons ABC showing their season ending games on TV with the Cotton Bowl on the line and Texas winning,32-3 in '74 and Arkansas 31-6 in '75. Arkie came wound up costing them a NC.

Still.........he had some fine squads.
