Who are our legitimate 5-star targets and where do we stand with each currently?

From @hackzubbard

There are currently 25 5-star players in the 2018 class, according to the 247Sports composite. Alabama currently has a chance with 5 of them. Let’s break each of them down.

Patrick Surtain, CB, American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.)

Surtain is one of Alabama’s top cornerback targets in the 2018 class, but the Crimson Tide are trailing LSU, Florida and Florida State at the moment. Alabama has a chance to make up some ground for him when it hosts him on an official visit this fall.

The one thing the Crimson Tide can sell him on is the lack of depth at cornerback next season.

Micah Parsons, Jack, Harrisburg (Pa.)

Parsons doesn’t seem likely for Alabama at this time. His father told us that the family doesn’t plan on taking an official visit to Tuscaloosa this fall. If that doesn’t happen, there’s almost no shot Parsons joins the class.

Terrace Marshall, WR, Parkway (Bossier City, La.)

Marshall is a long shot, too, even though there’s a better chance of landing him than Parsons. The nation’s No. 1 wide receiver will take an official visit to Tuscaloosa this fall, most likely for the LSU game. The Tigers are viewed as the overwhelming team to beat.

KJ Henry, Jack, West Forsyth (Clemmons, N.C.)

Alabama has a very good chance at signing Henry when he makes his decision during the early signing period in December. I think it’s a 2-team race right now between Alabama and Clemson. Henry will take an official visit to Tuscaloosa this fall, but a date hasn’t been set yet. That visit will be huge for the Tide’s chances.

Tyson Campbell, CB, American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.)

Campbell visited Tuscaloosa in July and things couldn’t have gone better for Alabama’s chances with the team’s No. 1 cornerback target. There’s still lots of time left in Campbell’s recruitment, but this is trending in a positive direction for the Tide.

Why hasn’t JJ Peterson pulled the trigger yet?

From @michaelmore41

This is a good question that I don’t have the answer to. I’m surprised that the nation’s No. 1 outside linebacker hasn’t committed yet because Alabama has led for several months now, and I don’t think the Crimson Tide will ever lose their lead.

He’s a guy who’s all about hard work and competing for a spot. That’s what he loves about Alabama and has told me that on numerous occasions. It also helps the Tide’s chances with having Jeremy Pruitt on staff because the team’s defensive coordinator is good friends with Peterson’s coach Rush Propst. Pruitt was Propst’s defensive coordinator at Hoover High School.

Peterson has said he will make a decision after his senior season ends, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him commit before then.
