I'm speaking more to the architecture and structure itself.
Older arenas usually had a more vertical rise with the seating. Now seating usually pancakes out away from the playing surface.
I think the vertical seating style plays a huge role in how a place produces energy and how people engage themselves in an event.
Arenas today are cookie-cutter. They usually lack uniqueness and character. Maybe the outside has something that differentiates it, but on the inside they're all too similar. They all kind of feel the same to the senses when you're inside them.

Fan support was never a problem back in the Hearnes Center days because back then, our administration valued the fans and made seats available and affordable.
The fan support had more to do with the fact that in 30 years at Hearnes, Mizzou had winning records in 26 of those seasons.
In 13 seasons at Paige/Mizzou Arena, there have been only 6 winning seasons and one .500 season (if we work under the assumption that Mizzou will finish under .500 this season).
I think you'll find a lot of character and atmosphere if winning happens.
