On the same token, Lane is the one who utilized a freshman QB and got Bama to the second straight CFP

So maybe firing him was hasty

Could very well have negative repercussions. We likely won't know this year because regardless of whether Bama loses or wins, there's no way to tell if it was on Kiffin or not. They didn't play a very good offensive game against Washington under Kiffin, after all. That's not in dispute. And, as you said, they did reach this game with a frosh at QB under Kiffin, which is also not in dispute.

There are just so many variables that factor into how well employees function, and what changing dynamics can alter the direction the business/program is headed.
