Teams that over sign like UT was doing rarely if ever get a bunch of top tier prospects with the extra guys they get, they do it for depth. UT's roster at the time was razor thin from Dooley IIRC

That entails signing some lower rated guys, which in turn brings your average down.

The overall rating is a lot higher, but the difference isn't astronomical when you consider UT was filling depth needs more so than trying to upgrade an already solid roster like UGA has right now.

Plus, Kirby year 1 and Butch year 1 are two different animals from a recruiting standpoint. Kirby has been an established recruiter in the SEC at a major program for years.

UGA has the luxury of focusing on upgrading from a talent standpoint rather than filling voids in the roster like Butch had to do.

In hindsight UT's '14 class isn't the best example, but in many years there isn't much of a difference between the 3-4th ranked classes and number 7 or 8, which was my main point anyway

No shite. If you had any clue, you would have known that from the start, but you prefer fling crap hoping it can stick.

In other words, its a huge difference, but not super huge? Brilliant analysis.

they do it for depth.

When you take scrub players for depth, its because you didnt recruit better players to take.
