I didn't watch the whole game -- I kinda figured it wouldn't be much of a contest -- but if the long pass you're thinking of is the one I'm thinking of, wasn't that with the 2nd or 3rd string on the field? Running up the score with your first teamers can be nasty. Running it up with your back-ups is perfectly acceptable.

Edit: I really wish it had been 3:16, just for the jokes.
