so far he seems to have a good grasp of X's and O's but he also seems less adaptable than he should be. What I mean by that is college football is never going to be ideal roster wise (unless you're at Bama) and he's been slow to tailor his offense to guys that don't fit perfectly and/or just don't fit his system at all.

Classic example: Roper did a much better job when he coached Treon.

In the xbox/theoretical sense, where you're looking at Xs and Os in a more pure way (without pesky players ruining it), I think he's great.

tl;dr - Not sold on Mac but I do think he has potential and playcalling talent. Intangibles so far are what's missing.

Roper's offense fit Treon's skills. Mac's does not. Hard to completely change the offense mid year to fit Treon who isn't any good anyway.

No one is good with Treon as your QB. No one. Belichick would suck with Treon.

I think this is inaccurate. McElwain did tailor the offense for Treon's first few games and he even talked about it in pressers. Towards the end of the season when it was clear Treon was simply not going to be a successful QB(or our QB of the future), he started to run "his" offense, or the system he wanted to install for the future -- because the rest of the offense needed to continue to progress and he needed to make sure they understood his system.

I think everyone would agree that his offense under Treon was horrible. I would want to see him use another dual threat QB before I would blame him. Harris seem to be scared of contact which is a problem when your a athlete playing QB. If you watch Harris and Grier run the ball it's not even comparable. Grier was not scared of getting hit . The fact that this year Harris wasn't even given a chance to play QB and transferred , says a lot about how much coach Mac thinks of him. Treon was recruited by Roper because he fit his system. Harris went to UF because they gave him a chance to play QB and FSU wouldn't . The good news is that coach Mac doesn't seem to have a problem getting pro style QBs. Coach Mac is smart enough to know that you need a QB that can pass the ball. He has never had super talented QBs but they have all done good because they can pass the ball except Harris .
