I willing to bet you've never stepped foot in Montana the way you're talking about it.
I LOVE the south. But Montana is one of probably 4 (and I've been to 41 so I've seen a lot) states I would move to outside of the south if not for its winters. Summer in Montana does not get better.

I've been to 46 states and it doesn't get any more beautiful than western Montana, especially around Flathead Lake.

I have been in Montana. There is nothing good about it.
I have been to 40 states, and I don't see how anyone could pick Montana to live in.
