Like Austin, the 1,000,000+ population metro with gridlocked highways and a plethora of skyscrapers.

Some of these things are not like the others...

Athens, Boulder, Ann Arbor, Oxford, and Eugene could all still qualify as having a "college town" feel.

Knoxville is a city, and a really gross crappy one. Not a college "town".

Seattle and Austin are huge metropolii

Palo Alto is one of the most expensive places in the US and is part of the whole SF Bay sprawl.

I've never been to Madison, so I couldn't say.

Knoxville is a great town if you are a fan of Post WWII East German architecture
