This is going to sound awful but if you try to understand what I'm saying it wont sound that bad.
The CW was fought over slavery and it was a bad issue to fight over. Obviously the south was wrong 1000000%. But the Civil War answered the question of State's rights. From that point forward the Fed was more powerful than the State.
Previous to 24 hour news stations and the internet people would live their entire lives not knowing what was happening outside of their little bubble. People lived in communities and states that were made up of like minded people and lived under laws that they were comfortable with. People in San Franscisco and Jackson, MS never had interaction. Both lived in the US but under different state laws and different core values and everyone was happy. Now that you can see what is happening all over the country, people try to make everyone live the "right" way and its not possible. The Fed is backing this idea.
The South was wrong on the issue of slavery but maybe not on the issue of State's rights. We were better off as a country when you lived in your bubble in laws you were comfortable with. If you didn't like where you were you had every right to move to greener pastures. Small portions of the population of an area weren't trying to change that community that was a heavy majority against the minority on that issue.
