You're gonna continue to see it the way you want to see it. not sure where you got those stats from. I just looked at final BCS standings for their times at their respective schools.

Carroll at USC played 13 teams in 9 years that finished ranked inside the top 10 at end of season. He was 8-5 against those teams - an average of 1.44 such games each year (5 of the 13 matchups were in the bowl game at the end of the season, meaning that he played 8 teams in season that finished in the top 10 during his 9 years at USCw).

During his 9 years at USCw, the Pac-10 had a total of 13 teams finish in the top 10. USC was 7 of those teams, so a total of 6 opponents from that conference in 9 years finished in top 10 at end of season. That, obviously, is less than 1 per year.

Saban at Bama has played 22 games in 9 years against teams that finished in the top 10 at end of season. He's 10-12 in those games - and average of 2.44 such matchups each year (1 more annually than USC faced). 8 of those 22 matchups against top 10 teams for Bama game in Bowl games (including 2 in 2015). This means Saban played 13 teams in 9 years in season that finished ranked in top 10.

During his 9 years at Bama, the SEC has had a total of 26 teams finish in the top 10 (2x what Carroll's Pac-10 had). Bama was 7 of those top 10 teams, so 19 other SEC teams finished in top 10 during Saban's 9 years at Bama (3x as many as what the Pac-10 had when Carroll was there).

Bottom line - a deeper dive tells a more complete story than the narrative you'd like to perpetuate.
