well it is the last year on his contract. if there wasn't that apathy towards baseball, he would have been fired by now. thought they were turning things around this year, but you're not going to win many SEC series when you only have one pitcher

I think this is the most important point. He just hasn't been able to sign that many good arms.
As was already mentioned, he will probably go back out to CA and do fine because he can recruit the pitching and play small ball out there.
