Micheal Sam just can't get a break

He should have tried to keep his personal life private. Even though he was drafted by the Rams, that was a descriminative(new word) statement to make by the NFL if it can be proven they said it.
Sources say NFL agreed not to have Rams on Hard Knocks in 2014 if they drafted Michael Sam.

My bigger issue is why would Sam being on the team affect who Hard Knocks covers?

Or... Sam, who had a great collegiate career, was not able to latch onto an NFL team.
Look, Arkansas fans love Matt Jones. He dragged the Hogs to multiple winning seasons even with Houston Nutt coaching him. He was, at best, a very mediocre WR in the NFL.
There are nobodies from college who go on to have pro bowl seasons in the NFL. There are highly touted college players who just aren't up to the NFL standards for whatever reason.
Sam had a good run in college and couldn't make it the pros. Well there is no shame in that since it covers a ton of players every year.

Sam didn't make it in the NFL because he wasn't talented enough PERIOD. Not everyone is.

Just a little too slow, just a little too small. Not easy to make it in the NFL. But he will still have a functional brain when he's 50, so it's not all bad
