re: What countries have you been to?

I have been to a LOT of countries. I guess my biggest thrill was from one that I didn't go to.

I was set to go into North Korea in 1994, but the 2 countries started shooting across the DMZ, and there was talk of a full-scale war breaking out. I was in a hotel near the border, and the army had blocked all roads going into and out of the area. I was told just to sit tight. I had a scary few days until Jimmy Carter defused the situation.

I went into China shortly after the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989. China was a creepy place at the time. I kept getting detained by the police because they wanted to make sure that I wasn't in the CIA.
