I was a young kid, but this team fought hard. I remember the QB play of Lex Smith and Donald Douglas. I always loved the Gators as a young child, but it was watching them hang in there vs Auburn at home and falling just short in the final minutes. To see Emmitt Smith break down on the field after that game made me love the Gators even more. I was 8 at the time and it just cemented my love for the team.

Geez...your memory is slightly affected by young age. It was one of the worse games you could watch. Think Vandy this year except worse.

Our defense played their hearts out, but offense consisted of Emmitt sweep to the right, sweep to the left and Emmitt up the middle. AU and other good defenses simply put 8-9 men in the box and stopped us. Donald Douglas was worse than Treon and made him look like Johnny Unitas....ditto Lexie.

We tried trickery to open the game on the first play..we actually threw a bomb just pass the out stretched hands of Barber who had a wide open field and six points if it could have been caught.

1989 was home opener vs Ole Miss and we gained them 3 to 1...but had more turnovers than a Publix bakery. Our QB was Kyle Morris who was suspended shortly afterwards for gambling along with Shane Matthews....yes...Shane.

Yeah I was gonna say people think Treon is bad never saw Donald Douglas play QB at Florida. I think Darnell was our coach for that game. like I said I was very young.

Darnell probably was the interim coach....Captain Kangeroo was fired not long after the LSU game (a surprising win in red stick) when it was discovered that he was guilty of giving an envelop to CB AA Jarvis Williams via a grad asst Phil Bromley with instructions to drive Williams to Palatka courthouse....Jarvis (RIP) was about to be arrested pronto for not paying child support and $$ was due to keep him from being arrested. NCAA somehow sniffed this one out and and now you know the whole story of why Spurriers first team in 1990 didnt go to a bowl game.

It was CRAZY to risk everything at UF for this..we had just came out of NCAA prison for the wrong doings of Charley Pells staff and had been severely punished...no TV in 1985-86 for example. In 1984 we fielded the best team in the country but couldnt go bowling.

Yeah, I new the child support story. I don't care what anyone says Florida is 1990 SEC Champions.
