Why does it bother you so much that a kid actually doesnt think Starkville is that great? It doesnt bother me if a kid doesnt like OM because our stadium is small or havent won a title. If playing in front of 100K is more important then what makes OM standout, we wont get that kid. So why do State fans have such a hard time with Starkville not helping their cause in recruiting? Is it because it is better than most towns in MS and thats what you compare it to? You realize these kids are comparing college towns to college towns, not college towns to their hometowns, right?

This topic has turned into an AJ Brown discussion because it hurts yall's feelings so much when people speak negatively about starkville. The only reason starkville and AJ got brought up is because we were talking about whether Simmons grew up a fan of a school inside the state. If he did, we would know about it, just like we know that AJ would like out of Starkville. At this point in the recruiting process, if there is a factor that will dictate where a kid will go, it is known by now.

If a kid kept saying that he wanted to play in front of 100K I would not get upset at him looking at other school's other than OM. That is one of our shortfalls, just like Starkville is one or yours. And hell, kids that grow up in Oxford would like a change of scenery too. Its not even a shot at the town of Starkville for a kid that grew up there wanting to experience something knew. Everyone would. AJ is going to State not because he actually wants to stay in Starkville and just says shite like that to piss off state fans, but because the #1 factor in just about every D1 kid's recruitment is momma, and she wants him at State.

You are blowing the "doesn't like Starkville" thing way out of proportion. These kids are going to play football. They are going to have a hell of a time no matter where they go. If they cared so much about the town, they would all be in Athens or Austin. If AJ ends up at State it will be because playing for State was more important than "getting out of Starkville".

If the town was a big factor, do you really think Treadwell would have left Chicago to move to Oxford, MS? You can talk about how bad Starkville is all you want, but when it comes to SEC schools, you are right there in the bottom with us. We have beautiful campuses and I loved my time at State, but neither you or us holds a candle when it comes to the better college towns. We are comparing ramen noodles to Vienna sausage. Both have their perks and will get you by, but even their redeeming qualities don't measure up to a filet.

ETA: Really struggled finding somewhere to put a shitty analogy today.
