By doing that you are basically saying every single Big 12 winner is just as good as every SEC winner. Why reward easier conferences with a guaranteed place at the table?

A 1-loss or unbeaten power 5 conference champions should be in.

Let's go over how many of those we've had over the last 5 years:

2015: 3 guaranteed, 4 possible

2014: all 5

2013: 4

2012: 3

2011: 2

Last night's statement from playoff chairman Jeff Long was very enlightening concerning how the committee decides who gets into the playoffs. Being a conference champion is one of several criteria but it is not the first or even the overriding criteria. In his statement last night, playoff chairman Long stated:

“In the committee’s eyes, if a team has not clearly separated itself above another and they are indeed equal, then we apply those four criteria of conference champions, head to head and those factors,”

“So they don’t come in until the committee reaches a deadlock, and (at that time) we add in the conference championships.”
