I know this is a small set of stats and it's not quite apples to apples considering we're about to hit the rough stretch of our schedule but I just wanted to get a quick look at how we're doing compared to last year.
You hear so much about our OL being at fault but the Offense hasn't missed a beat from last year. I know the OL is bad but it's serviceable with Swag slinging the ball.
The Defense on the other hand... absolutely terrible. Conner, Prewitt, Golson, DT, and Bryant were guys that simply laid people out. We just don't have heavy hitters this year. Outside of the line and occasionally Denzel and Hilton, the defense is soft as frick.
If we didn't lose Issac Gross this year, our DL would be unbelievable. I think we're definitely playing better on the line but it could have been great.
In my opinion, just from watching games and comparing stats from last year, our problems are:
1. We're missing Prewitt, Golson, DT, Bryant, and Hooks, who were all HUGE contributors last year. This isn't even including Conner, Gross, and CJ that are currently injured. That's an arse-ton of talent right there.
2. Defense is too soft
3. Defense ain't thirsty
4. Defense
5. OL is more banged up than a bama wife on September 20, 2015
6. Matt Luke - why not?

Our 3rd down stats are horrible. Especially on offense.
According to the podcast yesterday, we are top 10 defensively on 1st and 2nd down. But 120th on 3rd down.
On offense, we average the quickest scoring drives in the nation, and one of the lowest 3rd and out percentages. But on 3rd and 1, we covert 50% of the time.

I would be interested in seeing such statistics for SEC and Power 5 games. Maybe throw in the Boise and Memphis types as well. But I am lazy.

I think our #1 issue now is no Conner. He's our defensive leader. IF he comes back Saturday, I think we'll look fine, but all I've heard is he's done.
Tom hasn't done amazing at USF, but he was a good recruiter and coach. I think he'd be a step up.
Tom Manning for O-Line coach wouldn't suck either. Toledo has one of the best offensive lines in the league, and their O-Line is basically all Freshman.

This year in our "competitive" games, we've given up 37, 38, and 37 points.
Last year, we gave up 35 to Auburn and 30 to Arkansas. Excluding TCU, no one else came close to putting up 30 on us.
Swayze, I agree with you about Conner. When did he go down in the Bama game? I'm curious if that's about the time Bama started making the comeback. They put up 20 points in the 4th.

Don't remember exactly when he went down, but as I was watching the game, whenever we pulled Tony or after he got hurt, we looking lost. Like we do now. When he was back in the game, everyone functioned like a team.

They started scoring after he went down.
