The adjustment Chavis made was to completely sell out the defense in order to stop the run. He went Bears 46 defense and dared Alabama to throw the ball. It was the right adjustment - Kiffin tried, but unfortunately Alabama doesn't have a QB or WR who could take advantage of the abysmal DB's that TexA&M lines up.

Fortunately for Alabama though - even with Chavis committing everyone to stop the run, and with a backup C playing the role of turnstile, they were able to run enough to eat clock and shorten the game.

I'm not sure how anyone could look at Texas A&M year long troubles against the run and think because Chavis committed 9 to the box against Alabama that they turned around anything after the first quarter.

Aggie defense is still tissue paper soft against the run - I suggest you start praying now that Fournette has mercy on the Aggie defender's souls.
