Yeah, but then you're carrying a fricking gun while working out. I'd rather try and not live in a world where I have to do that. If I have to carry my pistol while jogging I'd rather just get the machete. At that point, I'd rather not live here anymore.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you DO live in that world. You can bury your head in the sand and take your chances, or take precautions in case you should need it. Free country do what you want, my point wasn't that the jogger should have had a gun, but apparently there were multiple witnesses. Would have been helpful if one of them had one.
