Again, as I've stated before, Alabama had plenty of opportunities to win the game even after this penalty was missed.
However, if you take a moment to consider how db's read and react this type of play, you will see that it has a very large impact because the lineman moving downfield is the key that db's are supposed to read to move up in run support and leave the WR open downfield. The penalty has come up a number of times (as a missed call) in recent years. It isn't a judgement call but simply looking at where a player is in relation to the LOS. It seems to be a simple fix by having a dedicated ref looking at that area. I don't know why we would want to avoid fixing a penalty is often missed and easily corrected.
The official would also be able to call facemask's (which really very rarely cause a player to fumble if we are honest with ourselves) as well as help determine if a player intends to bat the ball upwards or forward on an onsides kick return.

Jesus rebel fans are salty in this thread. Yea there was a blown call last year on the face mask. You still won. Congrats. Yes there were several blown calls this year. You still won. Can't we just have an honest discussion about them without getting so defensive? I don't think anyone in here is claiming the pass is what lost Bama the game. It's just a rule that was supposed to be looked for closer and was missed.
