State fans don't look at it in terms of "starters" and "backups". In State's system they're called "good players" and "even better players," respectively.

I'm guessing the "even better players" are the ones that didnt start the previous year?

What part about Mullen almost always only starting Juniors and Seniors can't you grasp? Or are you actually trying to argue that Fred Brown, Chris Jones, and Will Redmond weren't "better players" than the guys in front of them? Because they just are, that is a fact.

Look at snaps played, look at who was in when the game was on the line. You know who batted down Marshall's ball and caused the INT that put the nail in your coffin last season? Chris Jones. Starter is an empty title in a lot of these cases, Jameon Lewis being a prime example.

The funny thing here is an Auburn fan thinking it's absurd for us to say that a preseason all American is a better player than the guy before him. Yet your QB has less experience than probably 50 guys on our roster, and you fully expect him to be better than his predecessor. I'm missing how it's ok for you to have those expectations, but absurd for us to expect guys with significant playing time to actually produce.
