Obviously we aren't going to hold teams to less than 10 points a game like we used to, the game has changed. I still think a great defense can keep teams to 20 or less with an exception or two per year. Looking at our schedule which offense really scares you? Arkansas and LSU are ground and pound teams as is Wisky. Ole miss has no running game and a new QB. UGA is one dimensional. Auburn is a big question mark. If our offense can score 21-24 points with our defense this year, that's 10 wins IMO. I agree 1-2 games we will need to score more than that but we can win most of them the old fashioned way and stay close in the others and have a chance down the stretch with a game manager. Not ideal, but can be done with elite talent and an NFL defense.

Ps-- as to your question, in 2008-2009 we played two of Urbans best teams ever, as well as a very explosive Texas team (yeah I know we hurt Colt). Also seem to remember Petrino having some elite offenses around then as well as top 10 teams. The game has evolved since then, but some of you act like it was the pre-integration wishbone era five years ago

Saban can match up with high scoring offense like Petrino's in 2009, but hasn't figured out the HUNH Offense (see AU-630 yards). He can match up physically with the LSUs, UGA's and Arkansas's, then out coach them.He had problems with Ole Miss last year, and they didn't have a RB. Tennessee's and A&M's Offenses will be much better and Miss St still has Dak. Saban/Smart still hasn't figured out Gus's Offense. This years schedule has at least 6 teams that can hang 30 on SEC talent, in 2009 they played 2.

Meh, not really. We have had our struggles against elite HUNH offenses but what team hasn't? Defenses will catch up, just like they did with the wishbone, triple option, fun n gun, etc. Just takes time. People also forget the success we have had against some HUNH offenses. 59-0 against TAMU last year, 25-0 against Ole Miss the year before, etc. It has been mixed bag and will only get better as defenses adapt. Takes time to recruit differently and change schematically, but that is exactly what Saban and Smart are doing. Looking back at least year, our defense gave up 16.6 per game. We only gave up more than 23 once in 13 games heading into the playoffs. And that was the worst defense we have had in awhile. If you think there are 6 teams in the country, much less the SEC that can hang 30+ on this defense you are high. There might be 2-3 teams in the SEC with the potential to do that. And that's a stretch.
