The problem here isn't necessarily taking spread quarterbacks and making them run a pro style. It's not giving them enough time to do it.
Since Perriloux left LSU, our line of quarterbacks has kind of fallen off. Ideally You want a guy who has had at least two seasons learning the offense, playing garbage time, and learning from you QB coach to be your starter. We were set up to be doing that, but when Perriloux left, we had to start Lee and Jeffirson before they're ready. They ideally wouldn't have started till 2010 (and in 2010 and 2011 we did have good QB play), having been in the system. Last year was again a failure to have an upperclassmen in the system for a few years ready to take over after Mett. We missed on a couple guys (Kiel has no chest), we didn't go after Dak early enough, and Phillip Rivers' little brother and a relatively big HS name at the time Jarrard Randall were both a total bust. So guys like Jennings and Harris should have had a few more years to learn the system but there was no one there to lead while they learned. Now you see Cam rebuilding that consistent chain starting with Harris, and now Franks, with more guys going forward from there. We'll be fine.
