Athens and the university are so intertwined that it can be classified as a college town. Yes, it's bigger than your average college town, but downtown and a lot of local business only exists because of the student population.
A "college town" doesn't have to be a dump that has a college like you seem to think.

lol well I think a lot of people would classify Athens as a dump. It has more of a mill town look than Clemson or Statesboro, which are essentially country estates, and in Clemson's case, a country estate nestled in the foothills next to a lake.
I'm not anti-UGA and Athens though, I understand the appeal. Now that is had engineering I probably would have considered going there if I was 20 years young and lived in GA>
