there's no reason to think bielema didn't care as much about keeping philon. i'm sure he tried his damndest; philon could've been an all-american next year and the cornerstone of a huge growing year for the team. it's probably more about maturity and getting 'it', using your phrasing.

Yea but I bet while talking to philon, Bert could tell his recruiting to keep him in school wasn't working. So he didn't push as hard because philon wasn't very receptive to the idea of staying in school.
And bert probably had an idea his recruiting wasn't going to work going in, based off that it seems a lot of people knew philon and school don't go well together.
