Is it possible that Alleva wanted Chavis gone and Les wanted him to stay? As the AD, Alleva would have control of the $$. Obviously LSU could have matched had they wanted.
I remember during our bowl game that some radio station here (I forget which) reported that Alleva was not going to adjust his bid after the reports leaked of Chavis' offer from A&M. Caused quite a stir with our fans, and I at least expect you're right. Feel Alleva did not want to keep Chavis and had a set price he was willing to pay and would not budge.

Was not a popular move by our AD at all.

I have no sources or other BS to back this up, but I wouldn't be surprised if Alleva saw the crop of DCs available and said "If he wont take this offer, frick it we will get someone else". Defense isn't the problem, but the product is getting stale. Any excitement could make a difference, and it isn't like we can get rid of Miles or Cameron yet.

Okay. Heard this or read it somewhere. Les has a buyout clause in his contract.. said to be in the range of $13M this year. Not sure if true.

If this is true it sounds like LSU is stuck with him for another year or two. $13M is a hell of a buyout if true.

Is Alleva trying to piss Les off so he takes a job somewhere else. Losing a DC over $400K to another team in the same conference is just weird. Even Alleva will understand with the Muschamp contract and the Chavis deal, the price of DCs in the conference are going up. Doubt that LSU will find a "proven" high profile DC for anything close to what you guys were paying Chavis. Definitely going to be in the $1.5M min range. So much of this does not make any sense at all.

Trolling BS aside, I am glad to have Chavis. I think we get to find out if shitty defenses and the HUNH definitely go together. If Chavis can't get our D into the upper half of the SEC W then we got a problem.
