Don't forget Federal Monies that are flowing into your local Sheriff's offices. Look into that. Lowndes County takes a metric-frick ton of Federal dollars, and has expanded accordingly.

(we have some super-duper military toys the boys like to cruise around in, complete with masks, machine guns, and flak jackets...)

Completely agree that quotas, red light cameras (that don't do a thing besides increase tickets - never seen any evidence that they save lives and I highly doubt that's ever been the intent of them), and the like are a big problem. And you're right, those definitely foster a distrust.
